Fotheringham is a Regents' Professor of Computational Spatial Science and director of the Spatial Analysis Research Center in the School of Geographical Sciences and Urban Planning. He is well-known in the fields of spatial interaction modeling and local statistical analysis; the latter as one of the developers of multiscale geographically weighted regression. He has substantive interests in health data, crime patterns, retailing and migration. He was elected to the National Academy of Sciences in 2013.
